Our care / Personal care

Personal care

Help with the everyday things, like washing, dressing and getting about, given with patience and respect so you can carry on living at home.

What is personal care?

Personal care is practical, hands-on help with the routines most of us take for granted: getting washed and dressed, using the toilet, moving safely around the house, and eating and drinking well.

Asking for this kind of help isn’t easy, and we never forget that. Our carers take time to learn how you like things done, from the order of your morning routine to how you take your tea, and they work at your pace. The aim is for you to feel comfortable and like yourself, in your own home.

How we can help

Every care plan is different, but these are the things we help with most often:

  • Washing and groomingBaths, showers, strip washes, teeth, shaving and hair, done privately and at your pace.
  • Getting dressedChoosing clothes, getting dressed and undressed, and feeling ready for the day.
  • Toileting and continenceDiscreet, matter-of-fact help with the toilet and continence care.
  • Moving around safelyA steady hand getting in and out of bed or a chair, and using walking aids.
  • Medication remindersMaking sure tablets are taken at the right time, every time.
  • Meals and drinksPreparing meals you enjoy and keeping an eye on how much you’re eating and drinking.
  • Mornings and bedtimesHelp getting up and started, or winding down and settling for the night.

If you’re not sure whether personal care is what you or your relative needs, give us a ring. We’ll talk it through with you, with no obligation.
